Central Arizona Chapter
October Minutes
The October meeting (not a business meeting) was held on the 13th and
14th at the McCormick Railroad Park Rail Fair event in Scottsdale. On
Saturday C.J. Hanselman, Fred
Rayher, Tim and Karen Johnson, and Kent Taylor were at the ETE booth.
On Sunday the booth was overseen by Debi Young, Jim and Marge Poor, and
Bob Rebsamen.
We had a nice booth, and I've attached some photos I took of the club
layout. I think this layout has come a long way, and is quite
attractive now. Many thanks to all who worked on it. I know on Saturday
we had a number of people tell us they thought it was very well done.
We also had a visitor from the Southern California chapter who spent a
good deal of time with us. Thank you very much Bernt (Eric) Nilsen for
coming all the way from San Diego! And, many thanks for your tips on
getting visitors inspired in the hobby. Bernt made a very good point
about the difference in how men and women (and boys and girls) see a
layout. The men and boys see trains running right off, and focus on
that. Women and girls see the whole layout as a miniature of the world
with a train running through it. Now there's something to keep in mind
when recruiting new members. Oh, and the guys eventually see the whole
as well I think. Or is it that our ladies finally get us to add scenery
and Preiserlings?
Our next meeting is at the home of Steve and Debi Young on November 10.
Time and address to be announced later.
Respectfully submitted,
Tim Johnson, Secretary
