Central Arizona Chapter
January Minutes

The January meeting was held on the 12th at the home Andy O'Brien. Many thanks to Andy for hosting, and serving that great lunch! The meeting was called to order by CJ at 11:55. In attendance were C.J. Hanselman, Steve and Debi Young,  Tim and Karen Johnson, Jim Poor, Andy O'Brien, Chuck Weart, and Bill Nagel.

Old Business:

Clinics--CJ reports that Tim of Roy's Train World agreed to give a clinic on locomotive maintenance. He will get back to CJ when he is available. Steve noted that Roy's is about the only place around here which works on Marklin equipment. Steve had a great experience with maintenance on one of his locomotives. He was charged only $8 for the repair. CJ also related a success story at Roy's.

Steve has a hand rebuild Marklin steam locomotive in need of some repair. He would like to donate it to the club if someone is willing to do the maintenance.

New Business:

Modules-- The template is done. As soon as CJ can get together with Bob, they will pick it up. The next question is where and who will work on the first module. CJ suggested building an end loop first. Then anyone can build inner modules which can attach to it or to other inner modules. One more end loop is also needed to complete a dog bone circuit. CJ will send an e-mail asking anyone who is interested in working on the end loop to reply to him. A place to build the module will then be worked out, as well as dates for when it can be worked on.

Bill Nagel brought up the need to keep track of club assets such as the end modules, and any club equipment. One possibility is for everyone to keep track of their own equipment. It was mentioned that for shows that would be a lot of wear on personal equipment. Chuck suggested we ask other clubs what they do.

Chuck offered about 10-12 structure kits to the club. He will check on what he has and get back to us.

After the meeting and lunch, we put our heads together and puzzled out some of the coupler issues that some of us had.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:35.

Update on the membership dues and 2008 members: Bob communicated via e-mail that he has sent to national ETE all dues and membership applications he had collected from the December meeting. At the January meeting two more members presented their dues to Jim. Jim gave those to me, and I will send them on to the national ETE Monday (1/14). Paid up for 2008 are:

Bill Davis, CJ Hanselman, Tim and Karen Johnson, Jim Poor, Alfred Rayher, Bob Rebsamen, Chuck Weart, Steve and Debbie Young, Bill Nagel, Ole Oest, Andy O'Brien.

For the next several meetings, the venues will be
          February - Bob
          March     - Fred (tentative)
          April        - Tim and Karen

Respectfully submitted,

Tim Johnson, Secretary
