Central Arizona Chapter
August Minutes
The August meeting was held on the 25th at Marie Calendar's in
Chandler.
The meeting was called to order by CJ at 1:50 PM. In attendance were
C.J. Hanselman, Fred
Rayher (and
Virginia), Jim Poor (and Marge), Swen Elfving, Steve and Debi Young,
Tim and Karen Johnson. Also present
was Kent Taylor.
The minutes of the July meeting were approved as sent by e-mail. We
extend a hearty Välkommen to
new member Sven Elfving.
Old Business:
By e-mail preference, it was found that the majority preferred to hold
our regular meetings on the 2nd Saturday of each month. This will be
the normal schedule.
Scottsdale Rail Fest-- This event will be held
October 13th, 14th at McCormick Park in Scottsdale. Because we plan to
bring our club layout to this
event, and it needs some work to make it presentable, it was decided to
hold the September meeting at Fred and Virginia Rayher's where air
conditioned space is available for this work. Because the Rail Fest is
the 3rd Saturday of October, a motion was made, seconded, and carried
to hold our October meeting on the Saturday of Rail Fest, too.
Modules--
CJ found that plywood of suitable quality and lowest price was
available at Lowe's. The price is $39.99 per 4x8 foot sheet. CJ is
still working on the track plan. A discussion followed regarding which
of the several ETE standards in practice by other chapters is best
suitable for our chapter. Tim had a recent phone conversation with Andy
Hohl (http://www.yodelbahn.com/),
an ETE member who recently moved to Tucson, and who has much experience
building modules. Andy outlined several points to consider about these
standards. Tim will ask Andy if he could provide his thoughts on the
standards in common use in this part of the country for discussion at
the next meeting.
New Business:
Meeting Venues-- A notice of meeting dates will be circulated by the
secretary to allow members to sign up to host the meeting for each
month.
Steve reminded us that we need to plan for some clinics/workshops to
cover topics such as engine tuning/repair and coupler replacement so
couplers are common for a layout.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:30 PM.
Respectively submitted,
Tim Johnson, Secretary
