Central Arizona Chapter
April Minutes

The April meeting was held at the O'Brien home on April 1 at 11 AM.. Present at the meeting were Bob Rebsamen, Andy and Debbie O'Brien, Art and Barbara Bailey, Bob and Nancy Aleska, Tom and Marcia Cossaboom, and Jim and Marge Poor. Thanks to Andy and Debbie for their hospitality.

We put together the modules on the patio at Andy and Debbie's. Removing the K Track from one straight module, and installing C track with 4 K to C Adapters we were able to run two AC locomotives. Use of the C track went well and had no issues. Determined approx how much C track would be needed for both straight modules, and we will be able to run either DC Or AC trains on either loop once Bob A modifies the C track. Also, Bob A will help install toggle switches to make it easier to switch back and forth between the two power sources.  Based on the approx measurements, Andy will order the C Track required for both straight modules (any cost overage, and we all decided to volunteer to contribute), and the next upcoming meeting, will work on removing the cork bed and setup the C track for both lines. Will not physically attach the C track to the straight module, they will  be bagged and remain with each individual straight module, and then setup with each straight module when the entire set is put together. It will be necessary to have a small K track section on each corner module to attach the K to C Adaptor to the straight module.

On the corner modules, we took approx measurements, in order to have K to C track adapters to make it easier to connect between each module. Art Bailey donated a DC  Powered Roco 0-8-0 German Steam Locomotive to the club. We also discussed the clubs Piko ICE Train, and many of the other passengers trains which due to there weight have a tendency to derail. Thus the discussion was to look at adding weight to the passenger wagons to provide improved stability when they are running. As with the clubs Piko ICE set, there is only one speed OFF and RUN making it a challenge.

We all agreed that the goal here is to be able to setup the modules and run our trains, without having to go through the necessary repairs of the track in order to run the trains, especially when there are train events that come up around the valley and state, we want to have the opportunity to show our modules/run trains, encourage interest in the hobby and gain additional membership to our club.

Respectfully submitted,
